Copper coast in mono

During the last week of March this year,  I visited Waterford Ireland. Obviously I hoped for some great photo opportunities to test my new Nikon D750 along the Copper coast. Unfortunately the weather was far from great, it rained continuously for 3 days. But I managed to get some pictures of this magnificent coastline and together with my Irish friend Owen O’Grady, I went to the oyster beds on Helvick, just outside the coast of Dungarvan. Thanks Owen for bringing me there!!

As I just joined a workgroup ‘black and white’, so I decided to turn the pictures in mono. Hope you like them.

Churches of Barcelona

The last series of Barcelona has some fine churches of the city. I’m always attracted by churches, big or small. Faith can result in remarkable things. I always try to find a different point of view in churches to emphasise the beauty of it.

Like the main cathedral of Barcelona in the gothic city centre.

The detail of the main entrance is unbelievable.

Palau Nacional

The National Palace in Barcelona is situated on the hill of Montjuïc and from the front of palace you have a magnificent view of Barcelona.  It hosted the 1929 International Exhibition and now it hosts the National Art Museum of Catalonia. The building with its mix of the historic features and contemporary museum is spectaculair.

Please find some images of the building and museum in this series.

Streets of Barcelona

Jacqui had to go to Barcelona for work  so I took the opportunity and went with her. I explored this beautiful city and it was a great opportunity to test my new Nikon D750. It was not all hard work and long hours for Jacqui, we had also some time together exploring the city and enjoying some tapas and wine.

Unlike my other travels, I limited my equipment to focus completely on the new camera. All pictures were taken with the Nikon D750 with a Tamron 24-70 lens., no filters, no tripod. Camera and lens turned out to be a great combination. Amazing how you can stretch the ISO without noticing any noise. This became very noticeable in the evening and in dark churches.

The weather wasn’t great, actually it was raining most of the time. There was even a weather warning along the coast. Luckily this wasn’t a problem for me and the camera, in fact it was an advantage. No busy streets filled with tourists and the wet streets created a beautiful reflection. So every disadvantage has an advantage, as a great player and manager of Barcelona football club once said.

Ameland

From the 28th till 30th of October, I went together with fellow photographers Petra van Went, Arjan Keers, Stephan Ihrman, Niels Barto, Frederik van der Veer, Jan Teeuwen and Ed Geerlings to Ameland. It is part of the ‘Waddeneilanden’, a couple of islands in the north of the Netherlands.

It was just great to get inspired by this group of wonderful people. We stayed in a little holiday home near the village of Hollum in the west of the Island. It proved to be a perfect start of our morning, evening and night trips.

Thank you guys for the inspiration and days loaded with fun. Special thanks to Arjan for the pancakes and Niels for the ‘snert’ (pea soup)

Please find some pictures below taken during these days.

Public vote

In the post Winner Photo Contest Autumn, I was delighted to announce that the jury voted my picture of the Posbank, as best picture of the autumn contest.  Even more motivated, I sent in pictures for the other 3 seasons resulting in a second place in the winter and spring contest.

To announce the winner of the public vote, all pictures which became first, second or third in the individual season contest, were on display in the town hall. The public was invited to vote for one of the twelve pictures. These pictures showed perfectly the beautiful area we live in.

On November 17, the winner was announced in the town hall and I’m even more delighted and proud that my picture of the Posbank has won the public vote.

Monchique

Last September, Jacqui and myself stayed in the town of Monchique between the hills of the Algarve Portugal. A great location with stunning views of the coastline in the south. In the evening, while having a delicious dinner, you could see the flickering lights of  Portimão and Lagos in the distance.

Like most inland towns in Portugal, Monchique still has lots of character.

Inspiring Posbank

As you were able to see in posts of the past, a place I really adore is the Posbank. It is an inspiring place all year long, especially in August, when the heather is blooming. Photographers, walkers and cyclers come from all angles to witness its beauty. It is just great to have this on my doorstep.

Garrus beach Ireland

This June, I visited Ireland again and in the late afternoon of the 20th I went to Garrus beach, just a couple of kilometers west of Tramore. Again a wonderful spot of the Copper coast which stretches from Tramore to Dungarvan. This geopark is still undiscovered territory for most of the tourists. After being chased by some bulls, I managed to get on top of the cliffs and witnessed a spectacular view. At first it was cloudy but just before the sun was setting, it peeked through the clouds creating beautiful light over the scene. I definitely will come back in winter time when the sun will rise over the sea (and the bulls are gone).

Hope you like the pictures. Select picture to enlarge !!

Coast of Zeeland

During my work in the provence of Zeeland, unfortunately the possibilities to explore with the camera where very limited.

Last Saturday I finally had to opportunity to make some pictures of the North sea waves, broken by the line of poles on the beach.

Please find below some images, the majority taken with a 6-step ND filter to emphasize the movement in the waves.

By selecting the picture, you can enlarge it. Thank you for watching.
